Article | 2023 | Borsa Istanbul Review23 ( 1 )

This study investigates the linkage between portfolio investment and economic growth in 18 developed and 27 developing countries. Furthermore, it compares and analyzes interest-bearing and non-interest-bearing assets and the economic development level. The results of our analysis show that long-term portfolio investment is positively associated with economic growth in developing countries. Long-term portfolio investment through non-interest-bearing assets contribute more to economic growth in developing countries. However, stocks and long-term bond portfolio investment are unrelated to economic growth in developed countries. Moreove . . .r, capital accumulation positively affects growth in developing and developed countries, but trade openness decreases growth in developing countries. Our policy recommendation is for the relation between long-term portfolio investment and economic growth to be evaluated by the characteristics of their assets, instead of a general framework, and for decision makers to adapt their policies accordingly. In addition, non-interest-bearing portfolio investment is encouraged for better growth performance in developing countries. Keywords: Capital inflows. Economic growth. Portfolio investmen More less

Cevat ÖZYURT

Article | 2023 | Bilig : Türk Dünyası Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi ( 106 )

The main purpose of this article is to understand the historical breaks and changes in Chingiz Aitmatov's views on Soviet working life and labor relations. His works on working life and labor relations will be analyzed by dividing them into two periods. His first works were written on the assumption that the promises of the Socialist Revolution for a new life were realized. Workers live a happy and prosperous life in harmony with the system and their environment. The problems of exploitation, stratification and social conflict have been resolved and the ontological security of the workers has been ensured. This view changes, acquiri . . .ng a critical character in Goodbye Gulsariwhich belongs to the novels of the second period. The work questions the contradictions between the socialist worker and the socialist state; by demystifying the official discourses, it clarifies how the products and relations of collective farm workers are alienated from them in the planning and centralization processes. The detailed analysis of the novels The White Ship, The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years and The Place of the Skull, in which the author's critical approach to working life and labor relations, written during the Soviet period, remains in the background of cultural, moral and ecological criticism, has been excluded from the scope of this study in order not to force the format of the article. Onun çalışma hayatı ve emekilişkilerine dair eserleri iki döneme ayrılarak incelenecektir. İlk eserler, Sosyalist Devrim’in yeni hayata ilişkin vaatlerinin gerçekleştiği varsayımıyla yazılmıştır. The impact of infrastructure on trade in Central Asia

Burulça SULAYMANOVA

Article | 2021 | Asia Europe Journal19 ( SUPPL 1 )

This paper aims to investigate the impact of infrastructure on trade in Central Asia based on the data of three countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. Empirical estimations are based on panel data for the period 2010-2018. Infrastructure is measured by quality and quantity indicators. Trade flows are measured by the export and import volumes of each of these countries with their main trade partner countries. The results show that both the quality and quantity of infrastructure in Central Asia have a positive impact on trade flows. However, the positive impact of infrastructure over trade demonstrates a diminishing trend. . . . Given the general remote geographical location of Central Asian countries, the findings of this study indicate that a regional approach to the development of infrastructure is important and that policy towards infrastructure development should be associated with a government policy that facilitates international trade More less
